I shot this photo back in 2007 with my first DSLR, Canon 30D, while on my two year leave of absence from teaching high school. I started by living in Brazil for about five months, learned Portuguese (sadly forgotten most now) then traveled to all continents except Antarctica. I need to update my count, but I believe I'm at around 63 countries right now. Beyond the numbers, I've always cherished the people I've met and the numerous serendipitous moments. I would not have found this vantage point had it not been for a Greek friend met in South Africa and reunited at her home in Athens. People often ask what my favorite place was, and I usually respond, they're all pretty amazing and special! So, after teaching for five more years upon return, I've decided to leave teaching after 17 years in the classroom and started an educational podcast and a commercial photography business that is growing. I enjoy a good change from time to time to keep things interesting, learning, and staying true to all the mantras and lectures given to my students about pursuing our passions. So gather ye rosebuds while ye may.
